White supremacists trained with AK-47s, planned for ‘inevitable’ race war, affidavit says.
Five miles from the nearest paved road, on a compound surrounded by barbed wire in a desolate area of Osceola County, investigators say, Marcus Faella was preparing his troops for war.
Race war.
Faella — who sees himself and his compatriots as “protectors of the white race” — was convinced it was “inevitable” and planned to kill Jews, immigrants and minorities, according to a recently filed affidavit. As they trained in firearm and hand-to-hand combat, members of the white-supremacist group American Front discussed acts of violence and disruption with targets including Orlando’s City Hall, authorities allege.
They also discussed manufacturing ricin, the affidavit says, a deadly poison “which is categorized as a Weapon of Mass Destruction.”
Faella, his wife, Patricia, and at least six others have been arrested since Friday on several charges, one of which involves “paramilitary training” — specifically, teaching another person to either make or use a firearm or destructive device while knowing or intending that it “will be unlawfully employed for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder within the United States.”
Authorities on Monday would not reveal any details about the investigation or the crimes. However, the affidavit obtained by the Orlando Sentinel states the arrests came after a nearly two-year investigation, which unearthed heavy-duty firearms purchases and training for “the upcoming race war.”
According to the affidavit, Faella had a firearm stockpile on his property on Harris Road east of Holopaw. In a addition to barbed wire, the compound has been fortified with railroad timbers, cement pilings and other building materials and stocked with ammunition and military-style meals ready to eat, or MREs. He had also cut firing ports into the walls of his trailer.
During shooting drills, documents state, Faella used a racial slur in instructing American Front members to imagine their targets were the heads of African-Americans. In July 2011, a U.S. National Guardsman who is also a member of the group’s Missouri chapter gave training in hand-to-hand-combat and edged weapons, the affidavit says.
Marcus Faella, 39, and Patricia Faella, 36, were jailed in Osceola County on Friday and have since been released after posting $500,000 bond each. Florida corporation filings show the couple and Mark McGowan — who was arrested Sunday — officially incorporated American Front Inc. last year, with the stated purpose of “Religious and cultural preservation of the European people.”
But the Anti-Defamation League identifies American Front as “a racist skinhead group” active in several states, with membership mostly limited to Florida and California. And the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office, in a statement, referred to the group as a “domestic terrorist organization.”
The arrests followed an investigation by the FBI‘s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation.
“This investigation is a result of our on-going partnership with local law enforcement and federal agencies in a concentrated effort to stamp out hate crime in our community,” State Attorney Lawson Lamar said in a statement, adding his office “will review the investigation and will file the appropriate criminal charges.”
The affidavit filed to secure warrants for the Faellas and other AF members details startling allegations:
•In November 2010, Marcus Faella “began intently expressing his vision to create an ‘Aryan Compound’ where all the AF members could live when the United States government fails.”
•On Feb. 28, during one of several “mandatory” firearms-training sessions detailed in the affidavit, Faella “started planning to cause a disturbance at City Hall in Orlando.” He allegedly explained that the group had been “dormant” for too long and wanted to attract media attention for recruiting.
•On March 17, a member was tasked with infiltrating another skinhead group that opposes racial prejudice. Faella also discussed targeting members of that group for an ambush.
The affidavit details a wide array of weapons possessed by the group, from AK-47 assault rifles to sharpened screwdrivers authorities say some members carried to avoid being charged with carrying concealed weapons if arrested.
When AF members decided to disrupt a rival group’s May 1 anarchist protest, the affidavit says, the signs they planned to carry were modified to double as weapons. It’s unclear if the protest or counter-protest took place.
In a 2011 report, the ADL detailed the American Front’s activities, with members in Winter Park, St. Cloud, Cocoa and Satsuma. The American Front is also being tracked by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which keeps tabs on hate groups.
“We’ve been aware of Marcus Faella since 1993 when he was a member of the Confederate Hammerskins, a violent skinhead group, and head of the Melbourne chapter,” said SPLC spokesman Mark Potok in a telephone interview.
If you are Black, Jewish, a “minority” in America, might I suggest you put aside the “peace & love” mindset, and arm yourself. Remember, Stand Your Ground is a law that applies to every American citizen.

Ironically, I have been saying for months that if Barry Goldwater were alive today, he’d be embarrassed to be Republican and lo and behold, there was one of his quotes on a political page where he is talking about the bible-belt right wing fanatics and what would happen if they were to get in power.
I was permanently disabled on 9/11. The office I worked in most frequently during the previous 10 years was a direct hit and I was late as usually, in the lobby getting coffee. I moved to Massachusetts a few years later to “retire” and live near the beach. Romney was governor. Massachusetts is completely discriminatory against the poor and disabled and the laws and examples I could show would take up two entire pages. I have contacted the ACLU to find out why this is and their answer was that something I already knew. The politicians in this state do not give a damn.
I could not get food stamps because I had a housing subsidy so I spent two years without food. The governor’s response when I wrote about the situation, (I also had a $1000 a month electric bill because the landlord was co-mingling the electric) “It’s not my job to get you food. If you can’t pay your electric bill, move into a shelter.” He was also in bed with the electric co. and we have some of the highest rates in the country. Imagine how you would feel if your office building was bombed out of existence, your life taken away and shortened by damage to your heart from inhalation of something awful. Add to that you suffered from a broken back, Yet you had worked and paid taxes for 35 years as well as raised more money for philanthropic causes in one month than most people do in a lifetime. Then add to that the governor of your state who tells you essentially, it’s not his problem.
So while Michael Bloomberg who changed the law so he could run for a 3rd term in NYC, has now wiped out the middle class in Manhattan, Mitt will do the same for the country. Whatever vestiges of “comfortable” families are left, he will wipe out. And his comments, I don’t worry about the poor because they have a safety net, or putting his dog on top of his car for 12 hours are only a precursor of things to come are a precursor of what’s to come. When asked by Diane Sawyer if he would put his dog on top of the car again, his answer? Well, too many people would say something. That says it all. He wouldn’t put his dog in the car, not because he learned his lesson that it is abuse, but because too many people would know notice.
I happen to love Obama. He is intelligent, compassionate, is getting a lot of work done without having sound bytes over every single little thing he does. I love photos of him in a hoodie, dancing with his wife at his inauguration.
What’s different this time is that the Republican candidates have sunk to new lows. In Goldwater’s day, Santorum would be told (think 12 Angry Men talking to the bigot) to go sit down in the back of the room and shut up. Some of them actually made Baby Bush look almost human. Of course ignorance is far scarier than intentional misconduct. And the ignorance out there throughout the Republican party is frightening. The White House page actually found and shared my link when I was responding to a Santorum statement about mixing his church and the state. I asked if it was just his church or does my temple get in there? Do I get to shove menorahs and matzoh down everyone’s throat?
So get out there and vote! Do NOT take Obama’s second term for granted. We all have a lot to lose should Romney get elected.
One last note. Jimmy Carter, our last “human” president, was working with scientists on solar energy and other alternatives. There is a great documentary out about the founding of Earth Day. Carter even put solar panels on the White House. What was the first thing Reagan did with Bush Sr.? Tear them OUT. And it has been a downward spiral since then.
Ms. Earp, I have one question for you for the moment and that question is, may I publish this comment on my blog as a post in itself, to show why ex-Gov. Romney is wrong for this nation? Life stories like yours are vital in the mission of re-electing POTUS Obama.
As I was going to ask Ms. Earp the same thing. Her story is compelling and the more people who are made aware of a Romnet nation perhaps fewer people will be so willing to make it a reality.
I would also like to say I admire your strength and you ability to not just survive and endure but your ability to LIVE …Ms. Earp.

Scary, but I hate the thought of advising people to arm themselves…just goes against my principles in general for I am against guns and of course, violence. But as the election gets closer, we can expect more of this, incited by the right-wing that would love nothing more than to pit Americans against each other in physical violence. So sad.

I am very surprised at your vehemence. My feelings on gun control have no basis in race, it is simply my opinion and always has been. For your information, I come from a family who for the post part supports gun control. I have always been supportive of peaceful protest – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has always been one of my heroes and an inspiration to me.
