Rev. William Owens, founder of the Coalition of African-Americans Pastors, on Tuesday, compared President Barack Obama to Judas, who betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver (video below).
Pastor attacks Obama over gay marriage
Rev. Williams Owens, a critic of President Barack Obama, says the president is bowing to the gay community.
Rev. Owens said at the National Press Club: “The President is in the White House because of the civil rights movement, and I was a leader in that movement, and I didn’t march one inch, one foot, one yard for a man to marry a man or a woman to marry a woman.”
“So the President has forgotten the price that was paid. People died or they suffered or they gave their blood to have equal rights in the United States. And for the homosexual community and for the President to bow to the money, as Judas did with Jesus Christ, is a disgrace and we are ashamed. We will not take it back. We will not back down. We are going to take action across this country to change the course that this President has us in.”
Rev. Owens, who consults with the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) as a liaison to black churches, has launched a national campaign urging African-American voters to oppose the reelection of Obama.
Documents released in March, revealed that NOM planned to “drive a wedge between gays and blacks” to prevent same sex marriage from becoming legal.

Black pastors group: Obama’s support for gay marriage ‘might cost him the election’
A group of African-American pastors say that President Barack Obama’s backing of gay marriage may cost him the election due to weakening support among black voters — although he still has overwhelming support from them.
Rev. William Owens, head of the Coalition of African-American Pastors, a group of black Christians backing traditional family values, said Obama has taken the black vote for granted.
“He has not done a smart thing and it might cost him the election,” Owens said during a press conference Tuesday at the National Press Club in Washington. “There are more people that want marriage to be right than there are homosexuals.”
Although Owens declared that “we are not Democrats, we are not Republicans, this is not a political party,” Owens criticized the president for not denouncing gay marriage. He said the press conference was held to promote the group’s Mandate for Marriage, a pledge to support marriage between one man and one woman – what Owens says will be a national campaign aimed at rallying black Americans to rethink their support of the president.
Obama won 95 percent of the black vote in 2008, and while enthusiasm among some Obama supporters has faded since then, support for America’s first black president remains high among African Americans. In a recent Associated Press-GfK poll, 82 percent of black registered voters say they would vote for Obama. His approval rating among blacks was 87 percent.
The group’s press conference was held just one day after Rep. Barney Frank confirmedthat the Democratic Party is set to include a pro-gay marriage plank in their party-convention platform. The platform, approved unanimously on Sunday, not only backs marriage equality, but also rejects DOMA and has positive language with regard to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. The move wasn’t a complete surprise, considering Obama’s public endorsement of same-sex marriage in May.
Owens, who said he supported Obama in 2008, said that the president “has ignored the black community because he thinks we are in his pocket because he’s black. We refuse to give him a pass.”
At the press conference, Owens was joined by five other black pastors and said there were 3,742 African-American pastors on board for the anti-Obama campaign. Owens has long been an opponent of gay marriage and consults with the National Organization for Marriage as a liaison to black churches.
Later in his speech, he denounced the administration’s priorities.
“With all the challenges facing the African-American community – the prisons are full of African-American men – they have chosen to cater to the homosexual community,” Owens said. “They have chosen to cater to Hollywood, to cater to big money, and to ignore the people who put the president where he is.”
A Pew Research Center poll conducted in April found that 49 percent of African-Americans oppose legalized same-sex marriage, compared with 39 percent who support it. In 2008, only 26 percent of blacks were in favor of same-sex marriage, according to the same Pew poll.
In a Public Religion Research Institute poll released last week, 18 percent of black Americans surveyed said they see same-sex marriage as a “critical issue,” putting it behind the economy, education, deficit, a growing wealth gap and immigration.
Owens, however, said the president’s stance on gay marriage will be a much more decisive issue for his organization come Election Day.
“The president is in the White House because of the Civil Rights movement,” said Owens. “I didn’t march one inch, one foot, one yard for a man to marry a man and a woman to marry a woman. We will not take it back, we will not back down, and we are going to take action across this country.”
End Of Reports.
I don’t know of this Rev. Owens but from these reports I know he’s an idiot. NO man walking this earth has enough pull, swag or power to take on civil rights, marriage equality, AND President Barack Hussein Obama….and think he has a glaciers chance in Hades of winning that fight.
Black Americans are evolved to the point of following their own mindset, thoughts, opinions and ideas on every issue there is in America. Black Americans will never follow anyone blindly on faith alone. Black Americans will use logic, critical thinking & common sense to reach a conclusion that makes sense to them.
To put it in more crystal clear & simple terms so the good Rev. Owens can comprehend…..Shut The Fuck Up & Go Sit Your Dumbass Down.
Marriage Equality are a civil right as much as voting rights are a civil right. Civil rights don’t exclude anyone you moron.

Thank you for standing up for God!!
I don’t think God needs any mere mortal to stand up for him, you are insulting God if you’re foolish enough to think the God who created your dumbass needs your dumbass to stand up for him.
Ministers should stay out of politics and stick with trying to help others best interpret the Bible. Given the state of the black church and pastors of all colors, how bout you all get your house in order then seek to help others.
You are deceiving yourself and others.
Deception, beguilement, deceit, bluff, mystification, bad faith, and subterfuge are acts to propagate beliefs that are not true, or not the whole truth (as in half-truths or omission). Deception can involve dissimulation, propaganda, and sleight of hand, and well as distraction, camouflage or concealment. There is also self-deception, as in bad faith.
I do believe this is a description of anyone who stands against civil rights & civil liberties, based on sex, religion, race OR sexual orientation, while hiding behind a book of fantasy written by mere mortal men.
You, trey, are a fuckin fool/idiot/moron to continue to deny rights to Americans YOU YOURSELF enjoy. END OF MUTHAFUCKIN DISCUSSION.
Whats ridiculous is you ignoring my warning posted at the very top of MY blog saying ignorance & stupidity are NOT tolerated here, jackass. This ain’t no democracy fool, this is MY blog, I gave you an opportunity with specific demands to prove your stance on this issue and your dumbass failed. Go back and re read what you were told to provide, read it carefully, you had an epic fail trey, as I knew you would. Now get the fuck off my blog, I make the rules and I could give a flying holy roller fuck if you approve or not, dipshit. God bless you

w. N. Rogers………… Chicago Il.
Well said Mr. Rogers. Thank you.
this guy is realy not thinking. or i i just believe some of the people say that they know God don’t realy Know him, they just know the words of the bible, because there was word first and then action, and jesus came with action , he didn’t descimnate, as a matter of fact he said love as you would love you’reself . and he meaned it ‘ asked the postitute.
THE PASTOR JUST WANTED HIS 15 MINUTES OF FAME SHAMEFUL … IS HE GOING TO VOTE FOR MITT INSTEAD ??? … HE MUST HAVE LOST HIS MIND ON CIVIL RIGHT THAT HE FOUGHT FOR …
You are absolutely right Ms. Bello, he is a fake.
Yes; he is here to lead Christians in following there beliefs. He is here to provide counseling and comfort to all who seek the Kingdom.
He is not here to influence the laws of the nation he lives in.
He has no right to decide how we will handle such matters as Gay Marriage.
He doesn’t have to like Gay Marriage. He doesn’t have to approve of it; but because he lives and works in a nation; nominally at least; based on freedom of worship for everyone; he is required to tolerate it.
His freedsom to practice his religion ends where it interfears with my right to practice my religion or non-religion as I choose.
He can’t have it both ways. He says he was a Civil Rights Leader but I say he left that calling behind because fighting for Civil Rights isn’t just about seeking equal rights for African-Americans or Native Americans or Female Americans. It is about fighting for freedom of worship, speach, political affiliation, equal pay, equal opportunity and equality of treatment in all ways under the law; for ALL Americans; even Gay Americans whom you disapprove of and believe are on the straight ride to hell.
They may be. It’s not for me to judge. That is a matter between them and their own god/conscience.
My job is to treat them the same as I treat you or anyone else and let God do the judging.
I just don’t understand how people like yourself feel justified in forcing your beliefs on everyone else.
“We think Homosexuality is wrong because God said so in the Bible.”
But what if that Gay couple next door doesn’t believe as you do; that the Bible is God’s inspired word. What if they don’t believe in God or a god at all.
Why should they be forced to live according to your Bible?
I am constantly astounded at your display of arrogance.
“We think abortion is never ok.”
But not everyone agrees and; because (come on you know the answer); because you live in a free country where each person is supposed to be able to follow their beliefs and have dominion over their own body; you must tolerate the practice and let God decide if the mother was wrong.
I am sure that when you die and go to {Heaven?} (doubtful; but one can hope); God will pat you on the head and tell you you were a good boy for allowing your wife or daughter to die in childbirth rather than allow them to abort the child.
But not everyone is able to be that strong and cruel.
Not everyone wouldwish to be that strong or cruel. I personally agree with you. Life begins at conception and abortion is never ok. But I would rather face eternal damnation than live with the knowledge that I allowed the love of my life to perish; to save an infant who is not even aware and would not miss the life it lost.
I would never presume to tell a young mother that she must have a child that she can’t care for and doesn’t want to send into the emotionally; physically; spiritually damaging Foster care system in this country.
She must live with her decision and if there is a god; she will face him to be judged or forgiven when her time comes.
I am not God
God never asked me or any of us to be his judge or his cop.
How dare you or anyone else condone the attitude or words of this self-proclaimed enforcer of God?
What kind of fool would betray a man like Barrak Obama because he did what he is supposed to do; seek freedom and equality for all Americans.
What kind of a fool would seek to undo all the good this President has done because he doesn’t want to allow Gays the same rights he would give to anyone else.
So probably; you’ll want to rethink defending this backstabber of a “Civil Rights Leader” to me because there is no defence for turning this nation over to a rabble of crooks, lyers, and thieves like the Republican Party just because you don’t like some of the other players on your team.
I spit in his eye; just like I spit in the eye of any self-righteous, self-agrandising, “holy-man” or politician who wants to tell free Americans how they should live; worship; or behave.
Brotha, you honor this blog with your constant addition of patience, common sense, logical critical thinking and command of the English language. You just spent your time and education spreading knowledge to a moron and I wish I had the talent to do what you do so well….break it all the way down for the blind.
I applaud you and I am honored you are here. Thank you, but I fear that was wasted on the deaf. Thank you again Angry for that message on whats wrong with “Americans/America”.
it is what it is, and thank you
Angry Man, you should send a copy of this to the Dear Reverend. It most certainly won’t do any good, but he needs to have received it, anyway, because you say exactly what needs to be said, in the most respectful and eloquent way possible.
Who is the Judas here?
It always amazes me that people want freedom; but only for those who agree with them.
It is unfortunately as true in the Liberal, as in the Conservative community. Well; less true in the Liberal community but still; it’s there.
What is so difficult about the concept of freedom for all?
You can be having a perfectly satisfying conversation with someone and suddenly the discussion turns to their pet pieve and they begin to moralize and demand action to curtail and say things like; “Well really; allowing a dog to poop on my lawn; that’s just taking freedom too far isn’t it?”
Freedom 4 all = Freedom 4 all who believe just as I believe.
I can’t stand to see an ass kissin’ stupid black man who stands before the world and demonstrates his ignorance and hypocrisy. This fool has forgotten our history in this country…from slavery, black codes, Jim Crow, segregation, civi; rights to now…hopw can he advocate for fairness tolerance and acceptance when he is willing to deny those very HUMANIEST of rights to others…he is a stupid nigga and an embarassment.
It seems to me, that people who fought for civil rights for Blacks; and by extension, other racial minorities, ought to be the first ones to recognize that the movement for equal rights for sexual minorities is also a civil rights issue.
Personally, I recognize the word “marriage” as having an inherent meaning that implies a union between one man and one woman. However, I recognize the rights of others to have their own understanding of that term.
When so much of a person’s ability to build happiness in their lives is wrapped up in their ability to marry the person they love, who am I to inflict my own take on it, and thwart their constitutional right to the pursuit of happiness??
The intolerance that this man of God is spreading, would give me a big reason to not attend a church where he is speaking. I would be afraid that Christ’s message of love and hope would be twisted into a message of intolerance and bigotry.
I have a sister who is gay, and who has a lifetime partner, and I hate to tell him, they are just regular people, not the demonized freaks that he makes them out to be. I am encouraged that public sentiment is shifting rapidly to embrace gay rights!
Civil Rights are for EVERYBODY, whether it be marriage or voting or peeing in the same toilet. Civil Rights exclude NOBODY.
Amen! And the good reverend really ought to know that!
The good Reverend is too busy being a back stabbing Judas
The Man is a pastor, here to lead Christians. Do you think he makes up his own rules of law. God calls homosexuality an abomination and is not acceptable in His kingdom. What did you expect him to say? God’s message IS of love and hope if you surrender your life to Him and do your best to live by His words.
Dumbass trey, using bible scriptures, show mw where God calls homosexuality anything in the bible, do not show me man’s interpretation of what God says, or man telling me what THEY say god says but show me bible verse what God himself said concerning homosexuality. I’ll wait over here until your stupid ass comes up with that bible verse…..
While you search Google for that scripture, cause I already know you don’t own a bible, here is some education for your dumbass……the U.S. Constitution via the Bill of Rights says marriage equality is protected therein both documents. Now what fuckface?
I am so tired of you asswipes coming onto MY blog with stupidity. No more, I am allergic to stupid so until you dumbfucks get some knowledge and intelligence about which you comment on….your comments go straight to trash. That means YOU trey.
ell shouldn’t that be between that person and God , and not from someone whos not the final judge. This guy dosn’t see realy the devil’s plan
Honey, I DO happen to be a Christian, and I believed Christ when he taught that we should love our neighbor as ourselves. That all of the prophets and the law are contained in that one commandment. It simplifies a lot of bullcrap when you simply listen to the Master.
Let The Church Say Amen.
AMEN. How do their minds work? You explain the difference between practising your religion and forcing it others and they still think they are doing God’s work and have the right to be his enforcers. Un-Fucking-Believable.
To the asshole: You are the one decieving people by pretending to a man of God when you are really just a man of Tyrany. By pretending to have inside knowledge of God and his will; and you will no doubt be judged by him for your attitude. Because attitude is a condition of the heart and God reads hearts.
“God calls homosexuality an abomination and is not acceptable in His kingdom.”
perhaps; but then we are not in his Kingdom. the Bible says:
1 John 5:19 NIV
“We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.”
English Standard Version
1 John 5:19: We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
So if we agree that this is not God’s kingdom; then it would also follow that he doesn’t expect everyone to act as they would in God’s kingdom. All men are imperfect and all fall short of the Glory of God. But they can be forgiven by God; not punished and ostricised by you.
If you want to discuss the Bible; well I’m your boy. JB doesn’t believe but I do and I know what the Bible says and what it doesn’t say. I’ll be happy to go chapter and verse with you if you desire to be made a fool of yet again. Just come on over to my site because JB sounds like he is ready to beat you down and piss on you for your arrogant, pompous words and ideas. That is the only problem with the Net. It takes away that “Hands-on” feeling and that ability to reach out and touch someone who needs it badly.
