What Does $2000 Mean to You?
If Congress fails to act before the end of the year, every American family’s taxes will automatically go up and people from all over America are writing in to say what $2000 means to middle class families.
I’m a small market farmer in northern Michigan. $2000 in additional taxes would mean that we may not be able to buy the two greenhouses that we need to extend our short growing season.
#MY2K My diabetic supplies and medicine for the year
Groceries on my table for four months. Heating my home for a year. Two mortgage payments.
#My2K is keeping this house and keeping it warm for my growing family this winter
#My2K goes to prescriptions, mortgage, and other necessities. It’s not discretionary income for me. I need it to keep on keeping on.
That money would be two house payments. Or three car payments. It would pay for my medication for a year.
#My2k means coats, shoes, & school supplies for my 4 growing teenagers!
$2,000 would allow me to pay off the student loan debt I have incurred to go to college. I am a first generation college graduate currently pursuing a Masters of Taxation degree.
#My2K will go toward paying for my children’s daycare expenses.
#My2K would help me pay down college debt and support local businesses.
Losing #my2k would be devastating for us. Would have to forego some bills, upgrades for home heating and car repairs (transp for work).
A whole year’s worth of diapers for my daughter and my gas to commute to work. That is what $2,000 means to me & my family.
$2,000 to me is the January mortgage payment, February mortgage payment, March car payment.

i could live with the $2000 personal cost should we go over the fiscal cliff. i would consider it a political contribution just to force the republicans explain why they are protecting the top 2%
Some could well live with losing $2000, but think about the millions who are already living below the poverty line. Think of those on a fixed limited income who already chose between heat bills, food bills and medical bills each month.
Those are the Americans I think of and worry about.
