More than 12 dead in Newtown school shooting

NEWTOWN (WABC) – A state official confirms that more than 12 people, including children, have been killed in a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, Friday morning.
The exact number of deaths is unknown, but the shooter is said to be among the fatalities. Police believe the gunman was a parent of a student who may have had a confrontation with the principal.
Police report that the school is now cleared of shooters, but they are still treating it as an active shooter situation and all schools in the district remain locked down. There are unconfirmed reports of a second shooter, but it is unclear what happened to that gunman.
State police officers have gone classroom to classroom to make sure the school is clear. Authorities are searching the area, doing roadblocks and checking suspicious vehicles out of an abundance of caution. There are also unconfirmed reports that authorities have surrounded a purple van in Danbury that may be connected to the shooting.
State police are assistingNewtown police at the school, located on Dickinson Drive in Fairfield County. Governor Dan Malloy is also at the scene.
The first 911 call reportedly came in just after 9:40 a.m., stating that multiple students were trapped in a classroom with a gunman, who authorities say was an adult who had at least two guns. The school locks its exterior doors during the school day, so it is unclear how the gunman or gunmen gained access to the building.

Authorities in Connecticut responded to a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Friday morning, the local NBC station reports.
Police reported multiple deaths,several wounded children and at least one injured teacher, according to the Hartford Courant.
One gunman is dead, authorities told ABC News. There are unconfirmed reports of a second suspect. Two guns were recovered from the shooter, according to CNN.

A hospital representative in Danbury told NBC that medical facilities admitted three victims from Sandy Hook School.
Reports say that the alleged shooter appeared in the building’s main office at about 9:40 a.m., approximately 30 minutes after the school day began.
Students were escorted out of the building single-file. There are approximately 626 students enrolled in kindergarten through 4th grade classes at Sandy Hook Elementary, with another 46 faculty members, Newtown Patch reported.

NEWTOWN, Conn. — A lone gunman at the center of a terrifying Friday morning elementary school shooting here has been killed, authorities say.
The Associated Press and local media reported the shooter, an unidentified adult male, had been in the main office at Sandy Hook Elementary School. At least one victim had numerous gunshot wounds. Two handguns were recovered from the scene.
Mayor Mark Boughton said several victims had been taken to local hospitals. But details were sketchy. The Newtown Beereported that a police officer carried a seriously wounded child from the building.
Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers. Some students were still in the school at 10:30 a.m., after it was placed on lock down, parents said.
The school is in a residential, wooded neighborhood about 90 minutes north of New York City. It has has 39 teachers and about 650 students. A reverse 911 call went out to parents warning of an incident. Parents were being reunited with children. But, NBC Connecticut reported, police were searching the area behind the school with guns drawn.
Terese Lestik was relieved to find her five year old daughter, Eva, unharmed.
“I heard a boom-boom,” Eva said of the gunshots she heard earlier.
“I’m horrified,” said Terese Lestik. “I just pray for whoever is hurt.”
Alexis Wasik, a third-grader at the school, said police were checking everybody inside the school before they were escorted to the firehouse. She said she heard shots and saw her former nursery school teacher being taken out of the building on a stretcher, but didn’t know if the woman had been shot.

**A NATION WITHOUT GUN**
The only way to control *mass shooting* like this from ever happening again is to take gun away from every American’s hand … *I repeat* … “no one should be allowed to own gun” … The right to own gun should be eradicated … hunting or things that people use gun for … is not that important … Guns should be only used by law enforcers … and .. They have more than enough guns to safeguard the entire Nation … Gun business and sales should be totally control by the government … If … a private business manufactures GUN … let them turn it over to law enforcer … to track and sell … BESIDES … WHENEVER .. THERE IS A SHOOTING … THEN .. POLICE WILL BE CALLED … WHY CAN’T WE WAIT FOR THE POLICE BEFORE THE SHOOTING … We have the police … we have the National Guard … we have the Army … we have the Navy … we have the Air-force and many more under-cover Agents … we have the Cia … we have Fbi … Many military are coming home from the war jobless … Why can’t we put them in charge of getting guns away from every household … People should be given six (6) months to voluntarily give their guns to authorities … after that they should fined … after a year … if .. anyone is caught with gun … they should be jailed …

IF .. people need Guns or somehow feel that their life is in danger let them call the law enforcer to baby-sit their house hold for a while … up to six months … The cost of babysitting them for six months … will still be less … than the cost of incarcerating someone for 8-25 years … THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR ANYONE TO HAVE GUN … WE HAVE ENOUGH GUNS IN OUR LAW ENFORCERS HANDS … WHERE IT CAN BE PROPERLY CONTROL …

This is powerful Ms. Adeluola. At some point in the near future, I plan to publish your comment on this blog…with full credit to you.
I’m not sure why the government tip toes on debating gun violence. I’m not talking about removing 2nd Amendment rights but we should at least do more thorough background checks on those purchasing guns. When does human life become a priority over bullets?
America/Americans do NOT need handguns or assault weapons. I am ex military, I own guns. The nano second guns are illegal, I gladly give my guns up. American will continue to die, including children, until America outlaws handguns & assault weapons. Simply the truth.
Good point and it’s a very hard truth to swallow. Unfortunately some people would rather die then give up their guns. Very sad

Then I say to those who would rather die than give up their guns….Die. I volunteer to help them as well.
