Bay Area moms take gun control message to Washington

Nearly a dozen Bay Area moms will take their gun control message to Washington D.C. this Wednesday. The group “Moms Take the Hill” will urge lawmakers and the White House to pass legislation that will ban assault weapons and create stricter background checks.

The coalition was formed following the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Members of the Bay Area Chapter said Congress needs to act before another mass shooting happens. “We’re just trying to make sure no one else gets hurt. There are eight american children killed every day and it’s just unacceptable,” said Kimberly Samek, a spokesperson for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

The group expects hundreds of mothers from more than 30 states to attend next week’s rally on Capitol Hill. The legislation is currently making its way through the senate.

MAKE THE CALL IN MEMORY OF JESSE LEWIS: Neil Heslin, father of Sandy Hook shooting victim Jesse Lewis, shares a voicemail of his son wishing him a Happy Birthday. These Senate Judiciary Committee members haven’t decided yet if Jesse and the other eight children shot and killed in America every day deserve a vote. 1. Well, good for them, JB! They sure are making a nice, focused impact, and are hitting a lot of visual cues, and getting the message out on a lot of channels.
I sincerely hope they make a big stink. on the big day. I wish I could go. You’ve won me over to your camp.

    • Hey Ms. Lisa-Diane. Good to see you, and glad you’re won over. Those moms have made the ultimate sacrifice, losing a child to senseless gun violence. I wish I had known about this sooner, I would have loved to join them. ;-)
