I was engaged in a conversation with Ms. Ohnwentsya on this blog in the comments section. She sent me a quote from a local gun owner that reads like this…..

I do not understand why anyone would be opposed to background checks, registration, ID etc. A local gun owner proposed that we should have laws requiring gun owners to carry insurance, to secure their guns and to be responsible for any damage done by their guns even if they are stolen and used by someone else. He wrote to our local paper and said we go thru all srots of paperwork, classes etc to have concealed carry permits, just make the same stuff apply to buying guns in the first place. It seemed reasonable to me.”
Of all the proposals and suggestion from both sides of the gun reform/gun control debate, this suggestion from this gun owner is one of the most common sense, logical and critical thinking solutions to OUR American gun troubles.
Best of all it could be implemented quickly and deter criminals from obtaining guns through legal channels because no criminal will purchase legally if insurance premiums are enforced.
We are also making each individual gun owner fully responsible for the damage his/her weapons cause. Make that gun owner liable financially as well.
We are responsible and expected to have insurance coverage on any automobile we own/drive, so what makes a weapon of death & destruction any different? If insurance is desirable for an automobile, it should be mandatory for weapons.
Why you ask should we take this unprecedented step………
