Reverend Al Sharpton and MSNBC presented “Advancing the Dream: Live from The Apollo” on Friday, September 6th at 8pm ET.

The live, star-studded, two-hour television event included interviews and discussions with a diverse group of successful individuals including Stevie Wonder, Magic Johnson, Condoleezza Rice, Tyler Perry, Lisa Price, Sallie Krawcheck, Cory Booker, and Ron Blaylock.

Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater was the perfect setting. Reverend Sharpton and his guests looked back at the struggles of the past, celebrated current achievements and looked forward to the challenges ahead.

“Advancing the Dream” is an initiative led by Reverend Al Sharpton to highlight efforts in communities across America to expand fairness, equality and opportunity. The initiative was launched at the Essence Festival, continued in Washington DC for the anniversary of the March on August 23, and concluded at the Apollo.

Sponsored by the University of Phoenix, the guests ranged from political and business community leaders to performers and athletes that delved into topics including education, worker’s rights, income inequality, the opportunity gap and other aspects of the modern day civil rights movement.

  1. Been following Cory Booker for a minute now & think he’s NEXT..Even though he currently says he has no interest..Time will tell

    • Hmmmm….I have no respect for Mayor Booker. In my observance of his words & actions, he is a wanna be, a asslicker and one who will say whats popular at the moment. Thats my unhumble opinion.

He’d sell his small child for The White House.

      • Ahhh is that right? Well according to your opinion; it might be a good thing he’s currently saying he won’t make a run for the White House..According to my opinion last time I tracked a brother this long; he made it all the way to the White House. Long before he announced he’d make a run for it..God truly does hear my prayers! So if you’re right & I’m wrong? Lets hope God missed my prayer that Booker would be next; but I doubt it for he doesn’t miss anything. Time will tell..interesting take you’ve got on him , though I’ll agree to disagree

      • Cory Booker will never see the Oval office except as an invited guest. For that I am grateful, and you can mark my words on this Ms. Berna.

      • I’m not a gambler..Nor do I play the one up games. Time will tell & for your sake I hope you’re correct
