ObamaCare Facts: Obama’s Health Care Reform

ObamaCare, Health Care Reform and The Affordable Care Act

We have all heard of ObamaCare, but what is ObamaCare?
Obama Care, Obama’s Health Care Reform, is the unofficial name for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The ObamaCare bill was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. The bill enacts reforms to provide affordable health insurance to 44 million uninsured Americans and to reduce the growth in health care spending. Like “HillaryCare” in the 90′s or “RomneyCare“, “ObamaCare” is a simple name for a complex issue. Get more Obamacare Facts on Obama’s health care reform.

ObamaCare Facts was created by two guys sick of trying to dig through talking points to find out what ObamaCare actually does. We are stricltly interested in presenting the facts on Obama’s health care reform. We have no funding or agenda. Please help us to support health care reform by spreading the facts on ObamaCare – Support ObamaCareFacts.com

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

The first phase of Obama’s health care reformbegan in 2009 with the Affordable Health Care for America Act. This was followed by The Patient Protection Act, which culminated into the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act 2010, or for short “The Affordable Care Act“. After going through several changes, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010.

The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act

Another, less-discussed aspect of “ObamaCare” are the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 and the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act, which were signed into law along with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and are officially part of the new healthcare law.

ObamaCare: Health Care Reform in America

Since ObamaCare was upheld in the supreme court and Barack Obama was sworn into office for a second term, ObamaCare health care reform is now the law of the land (albeit with some major changes made in the supreme court ruling). Many reforms have already gone into effect and many more will roll out over the next decade.

Obama’s healthcare reform is focused on health care funding, reducing the cost of healthcare for Americans, increasing coverage and removing the burden that health care has become for the average American. In the years since it’s become a law, the Affordable Health Care Acthas already made a big difference in our country.

ObamaCare has done some important things already, such as prohibiting insurance companies from dropping your coverage if you get sick, as well as chipping away at discrimination against anyone with a pre-existing condition.

No system is perfect, but Obama Care Health Care Reform aims to reform the American healthcare system towards the favor of the people and away from the monopoly of the healthcare industry.

Read the Full ObamaCare Bill: Full Text of the Affordable Care Act.

Does ObamaCare Require Me To Purchase Health Insurance?

By 2014 all non-exempt Americans will have to have health insurance or will face a tax penalty. If you already have health insurance you can keep it. For many low to middle income Americans insurance will become more affordable, however those making above 400% of the federal poverty line may find themselves paying more.

ObamaCare’s Medicare / Medicaid Reforms

One of the biggest impacts ObamaCare has is on both Medicare and Medicaid.

ObamaCare cuts $716 billion in “waste” from Medicare and reinvests it back into Medicare and ObamaCare in an effort to improve the care that seniors get. It addresses issues such as closing the Medicare Part D “donut hole” and providing better quality preventive services to seniors. Read More On Obamacare and Medicare and How it affects seniors.

ObamaCare Medicaid Expansion expands Medicaid to 17 million of our nation’s poorest. However, this aspect of healthcare reform is in jeopardy due to the states’ ability to opt-out of Medicaid expansion. 16 States have already opted out of Medicaid expansion. Find out more about ObamaCare Expanding Medicaid

ObamaCare Health Insurance Exchanges

Under the Affordable Care Act, every legal resident of the United States of America will be able to shop for health insurance in their states onlinehealth insurance exchange. The “ObamaCare” Exchanges are Online Marketplaces where low to middle income Americans can shop for regulated health insurance.

Americans will be presented with the choice between affordable and free health care choices and more expensive, private health care choices. It will be up to every American to look at the individual needs of themselves and their families and select the right health care option for them.

ObamaCARES is a national health care reform effort to make affordable health insurance available to more Americans. Aside from expanding Medicare and Medicaid, ObamaCare also implements state and federal Health Insurance Exchanges.

Ideally aim of ObamaCare is not to take away things from people or to give handouts to people who don’t deserve it. It is only to provide affordable health insurance to all Americans so they can continue in their pursuit of life, liberty and happiness without the American Health Insurance companies or special interests standing in their way.

NOW FOR SOME LIES & MISINFORMATION……..

FROM Mediaite & The Fifth Column:

Generation Opportunity, a Koch Foundation-funded anti-Obamacare group, plans a $750,000 campaign of “Opt Out” ads aimed at convincing college students to forego the Affordable Care Act’s exchanges. (Included: “brand ambassadors” who will distribute Opt Out beer koozies at college football games.) But if their first two ads are any indication, the group’s strategy appears to be to freak the living daylights out of everybody, student or not, within viewing distance of a television.

In the first ad, “The Exam: Creepy Uncle Sam”—yes, creepy is the organization’s word—a young woman goes to her OB/GYN for an exam only to have her doctor replaced by a terrifying oversized Uncle Sam, who emerges between the woman’s legs over the sound of discordant circus music. “Don’t let government play doctor,” warns the text:

Opt Out – The Exam – Creepy Uncle Sam

Visit http://optout.org for more information

Good news: you are not required to purchase health insurance through an Obamacare exchange! There are cheaper, better options for young people.

Another video features a man told to pull down his pants and lay on an operating table, at which point Creepy Uncle Sam springs up from behind him and slaps on a surgical glove. You can take it from there:

These ads make no mention of exchanges, fines, or anything else; in fact, they provide no rebuttal to the Affordable Care Act at all, substantive or otherwise. They just have a dude in a scary mask about to violate a woman.

If conservative groups feel they have a valid financial argument against Obamacare, then they should make it. But if “straight-to-video slasher flick meets tea party iconography” is the best vehicle for your message, it says a lot about the message itself.
