President’s Meeting with Prime Minister Key of New Zealand

Today, President Obama invited Prime Minister John Key to play a round of golf in Hawaii. The two leaders have long discussed their shared interest in the sport, and they enjoyed the opportunity to spend several hours together on the golf course. President Obama and Prime Minister Key have developed a close partnership, which reflects the friendship and broad cooperation between the United States and New Zealand. While the two leaders are both enjoying some time off with their families and friends, they also reaffirmed our continued work together to deepen our trade relationship, enhance regional security, and support the democratic values that the United States and New Zealand share.

HONOLULU (AP) – President Barack Obama is hitting the golf course in Hawaii with New Zealand Prime Minister John Key.

The two leaders teed off on a sunny and breezy morning on the island of Oahu. They’re at a course on a military base near Obama’s rented vacation home. Key’s son and Obama’s personal aide completed the foursome.

Obama is an avid golfer, but he rarely expands his playing partners outside a small circle of close friends and advisers.

Among those who have received a rare invite to play with the president in the past are former President Bill Clinton and Republican House Speaker John Boehner.

Key became prime minister of New Zealand in 2008.

Thank you The Associated Press.

Important Info During the Snow-Storm; Massachusetts & New England….

Dear Readers & Followers:

In Massachusetts, we are facing the first major snow-storm of 2014, since this morning (Thursday, 4:00 AM EDT). We have already accumulated at least 12 inches of snow, as I can see from my window. I can feel the intensity of winds at 45 to 55 mph, even while sitting inside the house.

It’s about 8:00 PM now, Thursday night, and the snow-storm has started to intensify, as predicted. The emergency situation is declared in the State, and it has prompted the National Weather Service to expand its blizzard warning to the South and North Shore of Massachusetts, where some towns have already received 8 to 12 inches of snow, an amount that could probably reach 24 inches in spots before the storm fades away mid-morning on Friday. Next 36 to 40 hours are expected to be the peak of snow-storm in New England, especially North Shore of Massachusetts.

Despite having earned dismal approval ratings for his presidency at the end of last year, President Barack Obama (pictured) was still named the nation’s most admired man of 2013, according to a recent Gallup Poll. The Commander-in-Chief has won the honor for the 57th time, over a six-year period, since Gallup began asking Americans the question for the past 6 years, reports Gallup Politics.  The Gallup organization polled people ages 18 and older via telephone from December 5th to December 8th across the United States to respond to a question about the person they admired the most on the planet. Sixteen percent of Americans named Obama as the individual they most look up to, and he was followed by former President George W. Bush and Pope Francis, who both shared the No. 2 spot as far as admired males with 4 percent each.

Real Success Stories From Real People: The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act (ObamaCARES).

New Health Insurance Options, New Consumer Protections: New Year. A New Day in Health Care Coverage. New Year, New Coverage

Today is a new day for the millions of Americans who finally have the security that comes from quality, affordable health coverage. And those who already have health insurance will have better, more reliable coverage than ever before. From now on, insured Americans won’t be forced to put off a check-up or worry about going broke if they get sick.

Here is one such success story:

Dennis Taylor Submitted on 2014/01/02 at 16:01 in Response To: ACA success stories blog

For the better part of 30 years my wife and I have had employer based health insurance and we understand this game very well. This year, we intentionally opted out of our employer based health insurance to see what is out there via the health exchanges. In our case, we live in Arizona and I am so thrilled that our governor did not decide to screw over the citizens of the state by doing what corrupt governors of other states have done to their citizens by rejecting the ACA in their states. You people really do not represent your citizens and you are just screwing them over for no good or justifiable reason.

In any case…here is what it all boils down to for me and my family as well as others who choose to go the route of the ACA Health Exchanges. Far superior insurance coverage than anything we’ve ever had in the last 28 to 30 years with a smaller premium, smaller deductible and smaller co-pays. This is possible due to the ACA because for the first time, insurance companies can now compete with each other for our business.

Yes….we got a top of the line “platinum” level plan that has far superior coverage to anything we’ve ever had in past years through our employers, with a cost savings of almost $400.00 per month for the premium, a radically smaller deductible and smaller co-pays.

And for the record…this is all happening without any government assistance or government subsidies. Our household income disqualifies us from receiving government subsidies and we are reaping all these benefits and cost savings.

Kudos to President Obama and all who worked hard to make the Affordable Care Act a reality!

Thank you Dennis Taylor.

While there is much more work to be done, beginning today, no family will be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition like high blood pressure or asthma. Women can no longer be charged more than men for the same coverage. No American will have to worry that losing a job means you can’t get health coverage. And small businesses may qualify for more financial help to pay for new affordable coverage options for their employees.

The challenges in our health care system were decades in the making and won’t be solved overnight, but now more than 6 million Americans have been enrolled in Marketplace or Medicaid coverage and are getting peace of mind, knowing that they can get the care they need without losing everything they’ve worked and saved for.

  • Protections for People with Pre-Existing ConditionsUp to 129 million Americans with pre-existing conditions no longer have to worry about being denied health coverage or charged higher premiums because of their health status.
  • New Insurance Options: Many previously uninsured Americans have new health insurance options through private health plans in the Marketplace or Medicaid in States that have opted to expand it. Nearly 6 in 10 of Americans who were uninsured could pay $100 or less per month for coverage.
  • No More Annual Caps on Health Benefits: Millions of Americans no longer have to worry about having their health benefits cut off after they reach an annual dollar limit on benefits.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Health plans in the individual and small group markets are now required to cover ten categories of essential health benefits – including emergency services, maternity and newborn care, mental health and substance use disorder services, and prescription drug coverage. As a result of these new protections, approximately 60 million people will gain expanded mental health and substance use disorder benefits and/or parity protections.

#GetCovered – Trinace’s Story

Published on Jan 2, 2014

In October, President Obama met with Americans who are getting covered thanks to the Affordable Care Act. This is Trinaces’s story. Get covered at

As we ring in the start of 2014, today millions of Americans across the country will finally have the security and peace of mind that comes from having quality, affordable health insurance coverage. Today is the first day that coverage kicks in for more than 6 million people who purchased private health insurance plans through the Marketplaces, or signed up for coverage through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

One of those Americans is Trinace Edwards, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after being laid off and losing her insurance. Unable to work or afford private insurance, she has not received treatment. Her daughter Lenace, a student at the University of Maryland, had considered dropping out of school in order to help pay for her mother’s bills.

When Trinace began shopping for coverage after the Health Insurance Marketplace opened, she learned she would be eligible for coverage through Medicaid. Starting today, Trinace can get the health care she needs, without forcing her daughter to give up on her dreams.

In October, President Obama met with a group of Americans – including Trinace and Lenace – who are benefitting from the Affordable Care Act. Watch what the mother and daughter had to say to him about what the law means for their family.
