HOUSE GOP MOVES AHEAD ON SUING OBAMA

House Has No Legislation On JOBS, Immigration OR Gun Reform…BUTT Let’s Fuckin Sue The POTUSA.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans took the initial step on Thursday to sue President Barack Obama over the administration’s decision to delay the employer mandate of the health care law.

The office of Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, released a draft of the resolution that would authorize the House to file suit amid GOP criticism that the president has declined to faithfully execute the laws of the country.

“In 2013, the president changed the health care law without a vote of Congress, effectively creating his own law by literally waiving the employer mandate and the penalties for failing to comply with it,” Boehner said in a statement. “That’s not the way our system of government was designed to work. No president should have the power to make laws on his or her own.”

The so-called employer mandate was written into the law as a guardrail to discourage employers from shifting workers into taxpayer-subsidized coverage. Under those rules, companies with 50 to 99 workers must provide coverage or pay a $2,000-per-worker fine.

The administration gave businesses an extra year to comply with the health care law’s requirement to offer coverage.

The House Rules Committee has scheduled a hearing on the resolution next week, with a House vote later this month.

Obama has called the GOP effort a “stunt” and criticized lawmakers for inaction on legislation such as a stalled bill to overhaul the nation’s immigration system.

“I mean, think about that,” Obama said Thursday in Austin, Texas, as he criticized Republicans anew. Addressing them, he said: “You’re going to use taxpayer money to sue me for doing my job, while you don’t do your job.”

White House press secretary Josh Earnest reiterated that position and linked it to economic initiatives, saying in a statement that “Republican leaders in Congress are playing Washington politics rather than working with the president on behalf of hardworking Americans.”

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, said the effort was a waste of taxpayer dollars. “This lawsuit is just another distraction from House Republicans desperate to distract the American people from their own spectacular obstruction and dysfunction,” Hamill said.

Boehner’s actions on the lawsuit come as some Republicans are demanding a far more formidable step — impeachment.

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and others have called for Obama’s impeachment. Boehner said Thursday that he disagrees with those calls, but asserts that others can make a determination on their own whether the chief executive deserves it.

Obama made light of the calls for impeachment while in Texas. “You hear some of them — ‘sue him,’ ‘impeach him.’ Really?” he asked to laughter. “Really? For what?”

Obama Dismisses Boehner Lawsuit as a ‘Stunt’ on GMA

Published on Jun 27, 2014

The first part of George Stephanopoulos‘ interview with President Barack Obama aired Friday morning on Good Morning America (more to come Sunday on This Week) and during their talk the president addressed House Speaker John Boehner‘s proposed lawsuit against him for the first time.

“You notice that he didn’t specifically say what exactly he was objecting to,” Obama told Stephanopoulos during his trip to Minnesota. “I’m not going to apologize for trying to do something while they’re doing nothing.”

“The suit is a stunt,” he added.

“What I’ve told Speaker Boehner directly is, ‘If you’re really concerned about me taking too many executive actions, why don’t you try getting something done through Congress?’” Obama continued, mentioning immigration reform as one area in which Americans want action. “You’re going to squawk if I try to fix some parts of it administratively that are within my authority while you’re not doing anything?”

On Wednesday, Boehner held a press conference in which he announced the planned lawsuit and criticized Obama for “bragging” about taking executive action on issues. But, he added, “This is not about impeachment, this is about his faithfully executing the laws of our country.”

Boehner: Why we must sue the President

Published on Jul 6, 2014

House Speaker John Boehner says he will introduce legislation that will authorize Congress to sue the President.

I’ll say it one more time, instead of wasting millions with a frivolous lawsuit, pass a jobs bill, pass gun reforms, pass background check legislation. Reinstate unemployment benefits for long term unemployed. Reinstate cuts to Veterans, Reinstate cuts to SNAP.

Boehner: ‘When is [Obama] Going to Take Responsibility For Something?’

One day after President Barack Obama urged Congress to move quickly on a request for $3.7 billion in emergency funds to address the Texas border crisis, Speaker John A. Boehner made it clear the spending supplemental will not be rubber-stamped.

“We’re not giving the president a blank check,” Boehner said during his weekly press conference Thursday.

President Obama Taunts Boehner: ‘So Sue Me!’

Published on Jul 1, 2014

On Tuesday afternoon, President Barack Obama continued his streak of railing against Republican obstructionism in Congress, taunting the rival party for “doing nothing” while threatening legal action against the president to curb executive authority.

Speaking near the Key Bridge in Washington, D.C., Obama implored Congress to continue funding for the Federal Highway Trust Fund, and suggested that the political system is currently rigged in favor of those who aren’t in need, by those lawmakers who refuse to take action.

  6. Great article. I tapped your follow button. Yes, Yes, Yes… All this legal posturing and bickering is inane. Paraphrasing president JFK’s statement… “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”… Well, the best thing we can do for America is keep voting the incumbents out of office, until we get a balanced budget, with a substantial surplus. Please, please don’t say this will not work. It will work; in America anything is possible as we witness everyday. Washington will get the message that they work for us, and not the other way around. If someone has a better solution for solving our problems, the rest of us would love to hear it.

    • The voting booth works only when people use it, it’s kinda like a razor, you cab have several in the bathroom cabinet, but if you don’t use that razor, well you know.

      • I whole wholeheartedly agree. We can’t continue re-electing the same people who have been causing all these problems. I sometimes think American voters are the most reckless and complacent voters in the world, and they do it with low voter turn out, to boot… a dull razor if you will. Yes, it’s distressing. It’s a step hill to climb, but it can be scaled. Hopefully Americans are finally fed up and will turn out in a higher percentage than ever before; that by itself will send Washington a warning.

      • I have reached my limit of patience. Child protective services here is destroying a family I’ve known for years and there is nothing I can do to stop it. A woman who is morbidly obese is being singled out because she has weight issues; it’s another kind of discrimination. I cannot stop crying.

      • I am so enraged I can’t even think. To explain it makes me madder. Even my husband and daughter are mad. When I was first made aware of this, I said that they can get a lot of money for twin newborns and year-old twins… and sadly enough I see my prediction unfolding.

My friend Ana has an apartment, and in this apartment there is her elderly mother who speaks no English, Ana’s son and his (morbidly obese) wife. The son and his wife have a set of twin boys and in February they had a second set of twins. While in the hospital, a staff person wondered if the wife would be able to take care of the babies since she is so obese. She did the right thing by reporting her concerns to Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) (formerly DYFS).

The caseworker came out and did an investigation of the home and family and put them at ease – then he twisted everything they said to make everything look bad for the family. They brought police to remove the one-year-old twins.

They were told to cooperate and everything should end quickly. That was February. It is now July. The family has cooperated and been truthful and their words are twisted and made into lies on reports – the records of this event. The family wanted to record the conversations and DCP&P says that is illegal.

This family exists like many families do, by helping each other. When they took the four children they also broke the family supports that were in place. They made Ana’s daughter (who helped out) move many miles away saying that they did not want her toddler at risk. They told Ana that she could not have her 20+ year old son at the apartment because he has taken medicine for ADHD in the past. Anything to restrict the family from continuing as they had successfully.

Yesterday Ana’s son and daughter-in-law had to go to court for child support. And now DCP&P wants $130 per week for the kids – all the way back to February. They are poor! There is no way they can scrape that together.

Also… when they took all 4 kids, they cut out all the food stamps, Welfare and all their healthcare. The daughter-in-law is disabled, the son works as much as he can but he gets minimum wage.

This is one of the worst abuses of child protective services I have ever seen. Of the three worst, this is #2. These cases rack up thousands of dollars for attorney’s fees.

In NJ they push to get kids into “stable” homes quickly… they sneaked a bunch of adoption papers into a pile and tried to make them sign them.

I want to know how much they are getting for those two sets of twins? I am beside myself. I am in a rage right now.

I’m trying to get Ana to get the adult children to contact Cory Booker to see if he can help. The judge said at the last hearing that DCP&P is nit picking and demanded the caseworkers come up with better reasons or she would send the kids home. Now they are saying that it did not look like the babies were bonding with their mother. :( What did they fricking expect?

I am sorry to dump all of this on you but my feeling good for the people I help is wiped out by the ones I can’t. :(

      • I can’t do it, Ana and her son & daughter-in-law need to do this. I can’t even get Ana to call Cory Booker – that is how scared she is.

If Ana’s daughter-in-law was normal weight she would not have this problem. She just had a c-section with the twins in February and has not seen a doctor. :(

I’m going to work on Ana again.

      • Thanks, Jueseppi, I will. I helped her write a condensed letter asking for help and to read into an answering machine – you almost never get a warm body on the weekend. If I can get her to do that much it will help. Their fear is keeping them from reaching out for help. They are such gentle people – Ana’s son has never used a curse word. Yes there are people like that. For them to take advantage of and then abuse these good folks is unconscionable.

I will let you know what happens.
