President Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha dropped in Saturday at Washington’s Politics and Prose bookstore. The Saturday after Thanksgiving has become known as “Small Business Saturday,” designed to drive customers to mom and pop shops. (Nov. 30)
Obama Does Some ‘Small Business Saturday’ Shopping
President Barack Obama continued what’s become an annual post-Thanksgiving tradition by stopping at a bookstore for Small Business Saturday. With his two daughters alongside, the President went to Politics and Prose in Washington to pick up a few books, telling reporters he bought a “long list” of titles for every age group, including his own. List of books purchased by Obama, according to the White House:
When our small businesses do well, our communities do well. Join me and visit a small business near you today to celebrate #SmallBizSat b.o.
White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett will tout “Small Business Saturday” in Chicago’s Hyde Park, where she will, as in past years, urge shoppers to buy at local stores. She will be visiting three merchants on Harper Ave. and 53rd, near the block she was raised–which is close to President Barack Obama’s Kenwood home.
From the White House: “This Saturday, November 30th, Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett will join a number of White House and Cabinet Officials, along with millions of Americans around the country in paying tribute to the small businesses that drive our economy, and serve to define our communities. Taking part in Small Business Saturday, she will make stops at three small businesses in Chicago.”
