The Green Party will “keep the political revolution going” at the Green Presidential Nominating Convention, Aug. 4-7 in Houston

WASHINGTON, D.C. — “We anticipate a lively and closely watched 2016 Green convention because of widespread voter dissatisfaction with the presumed Democratic and Republican nominees — especially among Bernie Sanders supporters who want to maintain the political revolution. The Green Party and Green candidates will keep the political revolution going all the way through 2016 and beyond,” said Margaret Flowers, Green candidate for the U.S. Senate in Marylandand one of the two Convention Co-chairs.

The Green Party’s 2016 Presidential Nominating Convention will take place on Saturday, August 6, in Houston, Texas. Green candidates, delegates, and others will meet from Thursday, August 4 through Sunday, August 7, on the campus of the University of Houston, 4800 Calhoun Road in Houston ( http://www.uh.edu )

The Green Party has posted a “Welcome Page” for those new to the Green Party as well as those who are thinking about voting or registering Green or merely curious about the party.

The party has named two Convention Co-Chairs: Dr. Flowers and James Lane, Green candidate for Public Advocate of New York City in the 2017 election ( http://www.votejameslane.org ).

The Green Party will hold press conferences featuring Green candidates, especially those running for the presidential nomination and for public office in Texas. Green candidates will be available for interview during the convention. Media are invited to cover the nomination process on Saturday, August 6.

Members of the media may register for credentials here ( http://www.gp.org/media-credentials ) as well as on site during the convention.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE of press conferences and other events for media, subject to change:

Thursday, August 4: Press conference, 4 p.m. Introduction to the convention.

Friday, August 5: Press conferences featuring Green candidates running for local and statewide office in Texas and across the U.S., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Participants TBA.

Friday, August 5: Short film and panel discussion on Single-Payer national health care, 6:30 p.m.

Friday, August 5: Fundraiser and talent show, 8 p.m.

Saturday, August 6: Presidential candidates’ press conference in the morning; presidential nominee’s press conference late in the afternoon, times TBA. Media are invited to cover the nomination process during the day.

Saturday, August 6: “Party for the Revolution,” time TBA.

Room locations for these events at the University of Houston will be announced in the coming weeks.

The convention web site ( http://www.gp.org/pnc-2016 ) includes detailed information about transportation, housing, and registration for participants, observers, and media. More information about the schedule of events will be announced as the meeting draws nearer.

The Green Party’s 2012 convention took place in Baltimore, Maryland. Green nominees in previous presidential election years were Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala (2012), Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente (2008), David Cobb and Pat LaMarche (2004), and Ralph Nader and Winona LaDuke (2000 and 1996).
