Crocus Of Their Heart

beautiful_crocus_flowerYou found me on the edge of the world

where only tumbleweed and lost directions fell

spilling into chasm, rendering fallow

land uninhabited by those striving to untender yen

you gathered me into your warmth

as dazed wood pheasant is saved by speeding motorist

guilty in his luxury, he bends to undo damage

rent on broken wing by metal pursuit

In dim light I repaired against your effort

like deer grown in forest, spring at first dawn

when light finds space and green darkness calls home

electrifying their urge to sprint beyond their origin

I had given up thinking anyone would reach me

and there you were

an unexpected claim upon my chilled static

revealing spell of all who pretend to cease

when beneath loss lies all along …

the crocus of their heart
