Celebrate International Day Of Ozone Layer Protection.

Cuba will celebrate the World Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer next Friday at the José Martí Memorial, it was announced today.

According to a report from the Technical Office of the Ozone Layer (OTOZ), Doctor Nelson Espinosa will explain the island’s progress in the fulfillment of the Montreal Protocol, designed to protect the ozone layer and reduce the production and consuming of substances that harm its structure.

Among the achievements reached in the island by the OTOZ is is the banning of methyl bromide, specifically in tobacco crops, and of chlorofluorocarbons for domestic cooling systems.

The ozone layer is located in the outer ring of the Earth between 15 and 50 km in the stratosphere and serves as a shield against solar emissions that harm the immune system, the eyes and skin, and threatens human life.
